Concept Design

Impression
When i first went to visit my site , it was very cold and lonely, there was no one around and very quiet.
While i was standing there alone it was very relaxing , the water hitting the rocks and the view of the city gave me a peaceful feeling.

Edge

When thinking of the word "edge" what came to mind was life or death , that moment where your whole life can change in the blink of a eye. The risk we take on a day to day bases sometime is the different between life or death ,some people get a rush out of living on the edge , while other play it safe

Program

When I started designing my "Program" sheet I wasn't only thinking about what I would like to have in my museum but what car mean to me. Cars to me is like a empty canvas to a artiest , its a place a  where you can let you creativity flow , breaking rules and creating your own. Car to me also has a rich history that keep on evolving but never forgets its roots.

Waterfront Research

Why did you chose this city?

New Jersey is an up and coming New York, but with lower living cost. With their new growing committee i wanted to how New Jersey face those challenges and design something that is
attractive to there new growing committee.

What was the waterfront used from in the history

Hoboken was an undeveloped land until the 1600’s when Europeans started to travel
there, then other started to follow. In the 1800’s Colonel Stevens started to develop the
land , making a path way called “The River Walk” which was around a baseball field
back then. By the end of the 19 century, Hoboken had evolved into the major
transportation hub that it is today.

What caused the change at the waterfront?

The idea for the Water front park was first started with former Mayor Anthony Russo in
the late 1990s, and became concrete under the subsequent mayor, David Roberts. In
the 2000’s the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey contributed $24 million for
the demolition of the original Pier C and creation of a waterfront park. Demolition of the
old shipping pier occurred in 2002, and Roberts first promised groundbreaking for the
park in 2005.By the fall of 2007, the City Council approved a $21.2 million bond to fund
construction and work began in December.

What are the new uses?

A water front park

What are the transportation systems and the access to the waterfront?
Hoboken HOP Shuttle Bus
-PATH
-NJ TRANSIT Hudson-Bergen Light Rail
-NJ TRANSIT Bus Routes
-NJ TRANSIT Commuter Rail
-NY Waterway Ferry Service

Is there boat or water access?

Yes the Ny Water way Ferry

How does the waterfront attract people?

The open space that is very kid friendly allowing kid to play around also the great view
that you get of the New York Skyline. Since The Park is right on the water you have a
place where people can come and relax without going too far since it very easy to get
to

What are the amenities?

The amenities are the open space design, being that Hoboken is up and coming it’s
become very easy to access and having a lot of thing to do there like Shop, Dine, Fishing Pier,  Play Area, Water Play area, Rookery – (For the birds) and Promenade. Visitor also can explorer  Hoboken rich history and be also to see the great view of the
New York Skyline.

What type of retail/commercial/residential are at the waterfront?

Restaurant, Hotels, Museums, Bars, Movie theaters, New Residential Condos

What type of public spaces are there?

Parks, running path, Sun bathe and a baseball field.

Who uses these spaces?

The committees, visitor from other parts of New Jersey and visitor from other states.

What is successful about this waterfront development?

It is in the heart of Hoboken which is up and come just like Red hook,
Brooklyn, it is also very easy to access and has a great view of New York.

What is not successful about this waterfront?

The park was not design to withstand a hurricane like hurricane Sandy,
therefor the park was damaged from hurricane Sandy.

Analysis of my Precedent Studies

Building Typologies

1.      Which building typology you are researching?
A museum
2.      Why are you researching this building typology?
This is types of building that I have never done before, and I want to try something that is out of my normal element but create something that is very unique. I also wanted something that wasn’t available in the area.
3.      What is the specialty of this building type you would like to research i.e.?   Museum for dance, school for media…
The museums would be for cars of all kind.
4.      What are the examples that you will be researching… list the examples, location and architect  (10 examples)

3Gatti Architecture Studio of Rome and Shanghai have won a competition to design an automobile museum in Nanjing, China.

                                                   3D Model

                                                                    Hand Drawing

                                              Section Cut

                                                                   Floor Plans

5.      What are you goals for working with this building type?
My Goal for this project is to have a museum that isn't so common in New York City. This museum would not only bring people from all over the city but all over the world, putting red hook on the map. With this museum being opened in red hook it show that the neighborhood is moving in a positive direction, this would promote more people to visit, shop, and live in red hook.

6 .      What is the program elements that you see included at this point in your building? (may  evolve once more research is done)
The type of program that I believe the museum should be is of one that is able to be interchangeable, for example I want to be able to categorize all the different type of car from year, make and mode. I would also want the museum to have a student section, where student promote the work that they have done, this will give the student a motivate to work toward their dreams. During different season different type of cars would be at the museum so there something also new to see at the museum maybe evens someone private collections, different type of custom car like the famous SEMA show in Las Vegas. The museum would also have a theater / audition space allowing the car design and develop a chance to express how they come up with their idea, also able to have Q and A when they show their new concept cars.
